Big Art Map

The Public Monuments & Sculpture Association http://www.pmsa.org.uk/ is a survey of public sculpture and monuments throughout Britain. The PMSA is concerned about the increase in the selective removal of key pieces of public art. We welcome any information from PMSA members, or members of the public, which could inform our work and help save threatened works of public art. Please post your images of sculpture at risk here.

Desert Quartet

Approved 10 May 2007, the unprecedented listing at Grade II* of Elisabeth Frink’s threatened sculpture Desert Quartet at Worthing is the subject of an application for delisting by the developers, the Avon Group.
English Heritage, who recommended listing, is keeping a fairly low profile but the Twentieth Century Society, supported by the Worthing Society and the PMSA, is vigorously contesting the case for maintaining the listed status of this unique work of art.
It would be even more unprecedented, surely, if the DCMS were to reverse its rightful decision to list within a few months of the original listing. Even so, an original supporter of the listing application, who has written extensively on Frink, has gone into reverse and is now supporting the application to delist.
