Sun Voyager, Iceland

Made of metal, this modernised version of the ships Vikings used to conquer a big part of the northern hemisphere back then is a sight worth not missing. The statue, named Sun Voyager, is made by artist Jon Gunnar Arnason.

Hannes Hafstein

Hannes Þórður Pétursson Hafstein (4 December 1861 – 13 December 1922) was an Icelandic politician and poet. In 1904 he became the first Prime Minister of Iceland and the first Icelander to be appointed to the Danish Cabinet as the Minister for Iceland in the Cabinet of Deuntzer and was - unlike the previous Minister for Iceland Peter Adler Alberti - responsible to the Icelandic Althing.

German Memorial Stone

This stone commemorates a German fishing boat that was wrecked off the beach with loss of some crew. The memorial read in German and was erected by the fishing company to say thank you to the Icelanders who had risked their lives to save crew members.

The small village of Vik i Myrdal can be found at the south end of Iceland.
