'Bringing Learning Alive'
Our vision statement is to Bring Learning Alive and blogging encapsulates our aim to make learning exciting, up to date and fun.
Children's perceptions of what art 'is' are rich and varied - but can also be confused by what they have been told or the opinions provided by those around them.
This is not helped by the sort of rules surrounding art: the legal definition of Public Art, for example. One of our pupils defined art as, 'something that has been created for enjoyment' - a simplistic view that provokes discussion and which lies at the heart of this blog.
The pictures that you see reflect the statement above but it's left to the observer to find the justification in the pictures. If this promotes discussion and raises awareness of art and what art 'is' then that's a good thing.

'Footprints to Life' is a piece of 'twin-site' public art. Some of this artwork is at school and some can be found on Cannock Chase. Susan Walker came into school to work with the children who drew around their own feet onto a piece of clay. They then inscribed the clay with a pattern/design before glazing it. Susan took the work away to be fired as we don't have a kiln. On completion the work was put on permanent display at the visitors centre on Cannock Chase.

Footsteps to a healthy life. This was part of our contribution to a sculpture on Cannock Chase. Clay footprints, glazed and fired. Work was completed in association with a professional sculptor. I'll post a photo of the work on the Chase tomorrow.
