The gold and colored mosaic above the new entrance to the Royal Albert Hall, completed in 2003, was inspired by art and science in the tradition of the original terracotta mosaic frieze that wraps the dome. It is imagined that the warm air and composed sound from the hall meets with the cool air and wild sounds outside causing a turbulent situation. The image is derived from the surface of swirling, turbulent water This was worked on digitally, pixels in the design indicating the teserae of the mosaic.
