Plaque says:
Presented to the town by Patrick and Joan Norton
Sculptor: Richard Cowdy of Calne
Architectural consultant: Anthony Bolland of Devizes
AD 2008
Devizes owes its name to the Latin term 'ad devisas' meaning 'at the boundaries'. Devizes stands at the meeting of three manor boundaries, hence the form of this work of civic art is a pyramid on a triangular base. Typical aspects of the town, past and present, are incorporated in the design.
This view shows the Caen Hill locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
