There was nothing around that told you the artist or purpose of this object. It definitely reminds of two gramophones or tubas.
Its near South Kensington station.
Edit: I found out some more bits about it:
Contemporary British Sculpture, an exhibition in Holland Park organised by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for their Millennium celebrations. The borough acquired the sculpture so it has never been shown at Goodwood, but it can now be seen in Kensington High Street, London. It is made of granite and bronze and is 4,5x4x4m big.
